A Small Care Pack. A Big Step Toward a Girl’s Future.
Education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty, but for many girls in Malawi, the journey to completing secondary school is filled with challenges. Basic necessities such as food and school supplies can make the difference between staying in school and dropping out.
Every school term, our Education Team conduct a three-day monitoring and care pack delivery visit to several secondary schools where scholarship beneficiaries are currently studying.
In March, the team visited schools including Bzyanzi Secondary School, Dowa Secondary School, St. Chavara Secondary School, Madisi Secondary School, Tchawale CDSS, Loyola Jesuit Secondary School, Chayamba Secondary School, and others across the district.
MERL Officer, Eunice Nyirenda poses with some scholarship students at Loyola Jesuit Secondary School in Kasungu.
During the visit, 34 girls received care packs containing groceries and stationery supplies designed to support their academic life during the school term.
For many of these students, such support reduces the financial burden on their families and helps them remain focused on their education.
More Than a Delivery
The visits also served as an opportunity to strengthen relationships with schools and monitor student progress. The team collected end-of-term academic report cards, met with school officials, and held mentorship and guidance sessions with the girls.
Students were encouraged to remain committed to their studies and reminded that the scholarship program prioritizes learners who demonstrate dedication and strong academic performance toward future college or university opportunities.
Preparing for Future Scholarship Funding
In addition, the team collected documentation for COCOLILI Foundation, a potential partner interested in supporting the secondary school girls’ scholarship program. Required documentation included student photographs, school reports, admission letters, and school fee invoices.
This step is part of ongoing efforts to expand funding opportunities and sustain educational support for vulnerable girls.

Why These Visits Matter
Regular monitoring visits are critical for ensuring that scholarship beneficiaries remain in school, perform well academically, and receive mentorship support.
They also allow the organization to gather firsthand insights from teachers and school administrators, feedback that cannot always be communicated effectively through phone calls or messages.
Looking Ahead
The enthusiasm and determination shown by the girls during the visits reaffirm the importance of continued support for their education.
However, many more girls still face barriers to completing secondary school.
With additional partners and donors, There is Hope Malawi hopes to expand the scholarship program and reach even more girls who dream of completing their education and building a brighter future.
When you support a girl’s education, you support a generation of change.
