Delivering Hope: Education Support Reaches Dozens of Malawian Students

There Is Hope Boosts Academic Success with Care Pack Distribution Across Dowa District

Continuing our show of steadfast commitment to education and youth development, we successfully delivered care packs to students under our scholarship program, offering vital academic and wellness support as they head into the final term of the school year.

Over the course the just concluded Secondary School term, our Education Sponsorships team visited nine secondary schools across Dowa District, including Loyola Jesuit, Dowa Secondary, St. Peters, Byzanzi, and Madisi, reaching 24 students (13 girls and 11 boys) both Malawians and refugees, with care packs containing school supplies and groceries to ease the burden of learning for vulnerable youth.

The initiative served as both a support visit and a touchpoint for mentorship and academic encouragement.

“These are more than just items,” said Bridget Mponda, TIH’s Education Coordinator. “They are a symbol that someone cares, believes in them, and is walking this journey with them.”

Beyond distribution, the TIH team held meaningful engagements with students and school officials to further strengthen collaboration and ensure a thriving learning environment. The visit also included the delivery of 30 tree seedlings, handed out at Loyola Jesuit, Madisi, and Byzanzi Secondary Schools, an environmental investment tied to our Skill Up! project, which integrates sustainable development into its youth empowerment efforts.

A second phase of care pack handovers is scheduled for August, where additional students will receive their supplies during upcoming Social-Cultural Counselling Day, further demonstrating the organization’s commitment to reaching every scholar in its care.

For us, the success of this initiative lies not only in numbers but in the joy and determination seen in the students’ eyes.

“Our goal is to ensure that every young person in our program has the tools, support, and confidence to pursue their education,” said Eunice Nyirenda, our Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning Coordinator. “And every visit like this reaffirms that we are on the right path.”

Our support for students goes beyond just paying tuition. Every academic term, we provide Care Packs to each of our scholarship beneficiaries from Dowa district, because we believe education is about dignity, preparedness, and wellbeing.

These Care Packs include essential groceries such as soap, sugar, body lotion, and sanitary pads for girls, ensuring students stay healthy and confident throughout the school term. They also contain academic necessities like exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, and Mathematical Instruments, tools every learner needs to succeed.

This is all part of the comprehensive education scholarship package we proudly offer. In addition to covering full tuition and school uniforms, the Care Packs are our way of saying: We see you. We believe in you. And we’re walking this journey with you.
