At There Is Hope, we are honoured to continue our longstanding commitment to healthcare access for refugees and host communities. On 21st March, we handed over medical supplies worth MK102 million to Dzaleka Health Centre in Dowa, a vital facility serving over 86,000 people, including refugees and neighbouring communities.
Six Years of Sustained Support
Our Deputy Executive Director, Anock Kapira, emphasized that this donation marks the sixth consecutive year of There Is Hope’s medical supply initiative, made possible through our valued partnership with the International Association for Refugees (IAFR) Canada and Partners International Canada.
“We recognize the immense challenges faced at Dzaleka, especially in healthcare,” said Kapira. “These supplies are not just for refugees – they uplift entire communities relying on this facility.”
Laura Dobrowolski, Executive Director of IAFR Canada, reflected on the collaboration’s origins during COVID-19 in 2019.
“We share There Is Hope’s mission. When we saw how Dzaleka Health Centre served so many, joining forces was the natural choice.”

A Lifeline for Thousands
Henry Lali, the health centre’s clinical officer in-charge, expressed gratitude, noting the facility’s critical role:
“Many people come here with hope that they will receive care. Support like this ensures we can meet their needs.”
The Dzaleka Refugee Camp Manager, Elton Phulusa, highlighted growing pressures as the camp, already overcrowded, continues receiving new arrivals, stretching health services further.
Why This Matters
Saving live: Essential medicines and equipment mean fewer preventable deaths.
Long-term impact: Six years of support equals a healthier, more resilient community.
Unity in action: Refugees and locals heal together, fostering solidarity.
At There Is Hope, we believe healthcare is a right, not a privilege. This donation is one more step toward dignity for all.
